Remarking on Shao Fan's eloquent design for the Chelsea Flower Show, Lady Davies remarked:
‘We find ourselves at a peculiar historical moment in which one of the largest and most populous nations, and one steeped in centuries of tradition, stands poised on the brink of modernity. Such a moment has its tensions, but also its opportunities.
My vision for the KT Wong Foundation is to create and foster real dialogue between China and the rest of the world, from which we not only learn more deeply about each other but also begin to innovate, fusing traditions and exchanging ideas.
It is in this spirit that I commissioned one of China’s leading contemporary artists, Shao Fan, to create I Dream, I Seek My Garden.
A contemporary garden inspired by centuries of Chinese culture and placed in a quintessentially English setting, it is a work about shared heritage and how relevant Chinese culture is to global societies. The cultures can not only co-exist but hopefully also generate new and innovative forms of art’.
